Joys of Moving

We're back!

The move is done. We have a ton of boxes to unpack, but the bulk of the heavy lifting is taken care of (not all, but most).

It seems that Doug Savage of Savage Chickens was moving this week, too, since he put up 3 in a row about the topic. Here's my favorite (most applicable to us):

Heavy by Doug Savage

Here's our living room in its "before" state:

...and after a whole lot of this:

...we ended up with this:

That hardly seems to be an improvement, does it?

So, here's one of the best things about the house -- the view:

We are so incredibly thrilled to be living in the mountains.

The *only* downside to this move is the increased presence of these guys:

Holy shit, y'all, that's a brown recluse spider (pretty sure)!!! I'm insanely scared of spiders as it is (first nightmare I ever had was about them and the situation hasn't improved much), and I've had two spider close calls in a row, two nights in a row, right before bed each time. Guess how well I'm sleeping?

And before I sign off, I'd like to say THANK YOU, bigtime, to Drew, Dave, Phil, and Josh for all the help moving. You guys are awesome.

That is not a brown recluse. It is this: http://www.royalalbertamuseum.ca/natural/insects/bugsfaq/hsspider.htm
They are not poisonous. A brown recluse looks like this: http://entomology.unl.edu/images/spiders/brown_recluse1.jpg
They are very rare here.

In this case, I'm glad to be wrong! I don't think they are as rare as I'd like them to be (since I know one person that's been bitten by one), but I'm sure my paranoia is getting the better of me.

Nonetheless I've had a spider encounter every night and some mornings. I guess I have one choice only, and that's to get over it. But do they really HAVE to hang out on my towel and in my robe? Ugh!

Well, ew. I would say that robe- and towel-hangers-on deserve a harsher punishment. Like a foot stomping (after they are knocked to the ground, of course). Others should be left to eat all the bugs. And, not that you would get close enough to tell, but the brown recluse has a fiddle or violin shape on it's abdomen (ass). Just in case you wanted to sort through the little bastards. :) Cheers! And enjoy your new mountain hideaway!
